The City of Kimberling City will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, April 10, marking the start of construction on the long planned park on Lakeshore Drive.

The ceremony will start at 11 a.m. Attendees are asked to park at the First Baptist Church on Lakeshore Drive. A shuttle will be provided to the park site, with the last shuttle leaving at 10:50 a.m. Parking and shuttle are provided by First Baptist Church of Kimberling City.

Once construction is completed at 19 Lakeshore, this will be the first city-owned park since the 1980s, according to a press release from the City of Kimberling City.

Late in 2018, the city received a $15,000 grant from Kaboom!, a non-profit dedicated to bringing active, daily play to all kids. That money will be used for playground equipment.

The total construction costs of the park are estimated at $50,000 to $60,000, according Jerry Harman, City Administrator for Kimberling City.

The remainder of the funding for the “pocket park,” comes from the city, along with sponsorships, donations and fundraising by the park board.

Later in the year, there will be a “build day,” where 100+ volunteers will come together to work on the park and bring it to completion.

A press release also says the city will be looking for community members and businesses to work on community awareness.

The park will include a playground structure, including ADA accessible components, access to the creek at the back of the park site, benches and terraced seating and trees for shade and climbing.

The location of the park was selected to serve the highest number of children possible. There are many families and children within walking distance of the park.

For more information on the groundbreaking or the park project in general, contact Jerry Harman at Kimberling City City Hall, (417) 739-2752.
