Kimberling City Holds Annual Tax Levy Hearing

August 12, 2020
Cindy Hembree

Kimberling City is scheduled to hold a public hearing on Wednesday, August 19, in regard to the 2020 tax levy on personal and real estate taxes. The hearing will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the Kimberling City Hall located at 34 Kimberling Blvd. in Kimberling City.

A tax levy is an obligation that is put on a land or homeowner inside a township. The proprietor is expected to pay a certain percentage of ad valorem or what their property is worth. The rates can vary considerably from household to household. The taxes are calculated by assessing the size and the condition of each structure. This is done by the county assessor. It also depends on the revenues and residual funds left over from the previous year. The size of the school district may also be considered.

The determined rates are usually reasonable and affordable to the property owner. A tax levy is extremely important to any city. It is vital to a municipality’s growth and functional ability. As with every individual, a township’s council must consider price increases of materials, payroll hikes, repair to infrastructures and other overhead expenses. It must also be mentioned the importance of having funding for other programs and services in order to meet the needs of the dwelling community.

The new rates will be expressed by a .44 cent per one-hundred-dollar ratio. “This rate is the same as in the past few years,” said City Clerk, Laura Cather. She added that the city’s revenue will have nearly a four hundred dollar increase due to new growth within the township. Residents will be allowed to voice their opinions and grievances concerning the tax levy at the time of the hearing. For more information, contact Kimberling City Hall at 417.739.4903.
