Kimberling City city council met Wednesday, November 7, with several citizens in attendance. Appointments were made to several boards and readings of proposed ordinances were made. One ordinance was adopted, moving the board meetings to the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. That ordinance took effect immediately. The next meeting of the council will be Tuesday, December 4, at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
Prior to the formal meeting, a public hearing on a zoning variance was held. Monty Bass, of Ridgetop Drive, requested a variance of 15 feet from the back of a proposed detached garage to the property line. Bass and contractor spoke before the board about the variance. “It turns out,” Bass said, “we aren’t going to need to go to 10 feet, it will be about 15 feet.”
After a brief discussion, the variance was approved.
Jayne Shawn and Mary Phillip were appointed to the Economic Development Committee. Shawn works with Southern Bank in Kimberling City and also with the Table Rock Area Chamber of Commerce. Phillip moved to Kimberling City from Texas about a year and a half ago. While in Texas, she served on another Economic Development Committee. Philip Korem was appointed to the Police Committee. Korem retired to the City several years ago after serving 34 years on the Peoria, Ill., Police Department. “Thank you all so much,” said Mayor Bob Fritz.
Craig Alexander, Chief of Police, spoke before the board requesting a change in records system to Omnigo Records. Alexander said this new records system would allow the department to better use time by automatically filling out some of the various forms required by state law. No vote was made on the matter at the meeting.
Mayor Fritz reported to the board on the Halloween event and other events that happened in the city since the last meeting. He also reminded those present of the December 1 Lions Club Christmas Parade. There will be a new route this year to avoid blocking Highway 13. This year the parade will start at the library and continue on city streets to end at Harter House.
Alderman Martin spoke on the progress of the Park Board. The board hopes to break ground on the tentatively named “Lakeview Park” in February or March 2019.
