The first game of the SWCL tournament against the Southwest Trojans was Saturday, October 17th. Even though the Bears only won one game last season, they took a 9-1 record into the tournament, which put them as the two seed. Cody Jones led the way against Southwest with 26. Jack Stephens and John Bailey both had 9 to help overcome the Trojans with a win 58 to 34.
Monday, October 19, the Bears faced the Crane Pirates in the 2nd round of the tournament. The Pirates came out with fire and a defensive mentality to stop the Bears offense. The game went into overtime on a last second three point basket by John Bailey. Aden Baldwin had 11 to lead the Bears. Bobby Harris Jr. had 10, but that wasn’t enough to lead the Bears to a victory, as the Crane Pirates won 44-40.
The Junior High Bears played their last game of the tournament and the season for 3rd place against Purdy with a win of 48-31. Cody Jones led the way with 20 points and Aden Baldwin was right behind him with 12 points. It was a good team win. The Bears ended the season with an 11-2 record. Coach Sherer stated “The Bears haven’t won a first round tournament game in 7 years and to come out and take 3rd after losing a tough one against Crane shows some maturity from this young team. I am proud of the way they were able to bounce back and take home some hardware after such a heartbreaking loss.”
