The City of Hurley held its fourth annual “SprEaster” egg hunt on Saturday, March 23. Southern Bank provided food and drinks and also donated three bicycles which were given away after the egg hunt.
“It was a pretty good event,” Hurley City Clerk Chris Daughtery said. “We had about 40 kids come out,” he said.
This year, 1,000 prefilled eggs were distributed with 250 for each of the four age groups, to help keep the competition fair. There were only 5 children in the 3 to 4 year old group, so each of them went home with a basket full of eggs.
The egg hunt is one of the main Hurley community events, which is put on by the Hurley Community Development Corporation (HCDC). The HCDC also helps fund the Fourth of July fireworks and the Christmas lighting.
Every year, they also hold an essay contest, awarding a small scholarship to a student graduating from Hurley.
The 2018 Independence Day celebration will be Saturday, June 23. The band Thrillfall is set to perform this year.
