Hurley School District Considering Switch To Four Day Week
November 14, 2019
There will be a community meeting on Monday, November 18, for those in the Hurley R-I School District. The district is considering a change to a four-day school week.
A four day school week has become increasingly popular at rural schools as the districts work to keep students in school and the institutions afloat.
In recent years, both Crane and Galena school districts have switched to the four-day week.
Both Crane and Galena schools are in session Tuesday through Friday. They make up for the missed day be extending the school day slightly.
Proponents of this way of organizing the school days say parents and students are better able to organize their weeks because almost all school weeks are consistent, Tuesday through Friday, without frequent, irregular patterns with early dismissals or three-day weekends only for holidays.
Those interested in hearing Hurley School’s plans and wanting to share their opinions or learn more are encouraged to attend the meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, November 18, at the school.
Additional events of note coming up at Hurley:
There will be a blood drive on Thursday, November 21, from 12 noon to 5 p.m.
The annual Senior Citizen’s Luncheon is set for Thursday, December 12, at 11:30 a.m. Attendees should RSVP to Amy at (417) 369-3271.
