18 year old Dakota Moore, of Crane, appeared in Stone County courts last week. She is charged with killing her 9 month old child in September of last year.
Moore appeared before Judge Alan Blankenship on Tuesday, January 23. Blankenship set the preliminary hearing for Tuesday, March 13.
Moore is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the first degree and abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death. If convicted, she faces 10 to 30 years in prison, or life imprisonment.
On September 12, 2017, Stone County Sheriff’s Detectives, Crane Police and first responders answered a call about an unresponsive infant at an address in Crane. Life preserving measures were unsuccessful and an autopsy was performed, per state law.
During the autopsy, traumatic injuries consistent with child abuse were discovered. According to a press release from the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, Moore admitted to kicking the baby in an interview. Moore was arrested and originally held on $100,000 bond, which was posted September 25.
Judge Blankenship added a special condition to her bond in November, barring Moore from living with or having unsupervised contact with any minor children under the age of 17.
Stone County Prosecutor Matt Selby filed for a special prosecutor to be appointed. Christian County Prosecuting Attorney Amy Fite and assistant Prosecuting Attorney Kristen Touhy were appointed to pursue the case against Moore.
Dakota Moore will appear before Judge Blankenship on Tuesday, March 13, at 1 p.m.
