The Table Rock Lake Chamber of Commerce and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library planned to honor Gibson Technical Center’s Tom Sears as the Teacher of the Month for March. The March luncheon had to be canceled, so Sears will receive his award at a later date.

“Mr. Sears always goes above and beyond, providing students with lifelong skills,” said Gibson Tech Director Nick Thieman. “He’s definitely an asset to our students and school.”

This is Sears’ eighth year as the Automotive Technology instructor at Gibson Tech. Mr. Sears’ classes conduct workplace simulation labs where students complete automotive repair jobs for staff and students. This opportunity affords valuable on-the-job experience for students. Each year, the class completes more than 300 work orders.

According to one student, “Mr. Sears teaches us things that will stay with us for a lifetime. I come home every day to tell my parents what we have done during class.”

Students in the Automotive Technology program regularly pass the Automotive Service Excellence exam (ASE), earning valuable certifications that allow them to go straight into the workforce or gain entrance into a technical college.
