Galena’s Clark Qualifies For State Cross Country

November 1, 2018
On Saturday, October 27, Galena journeyed to Lamar for the Class 1 District 4 Cross Country MSHSAA event. The first event of the day was the Girls event. Galena could not participate as a team on Saturday as two members were taking the ACT test that day for college. Senior Makayla Cloud missed her final race. “I am proud she put her academics before her athletics. She is trying to boost her score for additional academic scholarship opportunities. I applaud her for that,” said David Sherer, Boy’s Coach and Galena Athletic Director.
This left the Lady Bears short handed with only three runners. Freshman Harley McCullough finished 23rd, junior Amber Howard 30th and sophomore Chalice Sherer 31st. On the boys side, the team finished 5th in points; a very positive sign with only one senior in Josh Gulick. “Josh joined us late after baseball and shaved off almost two and half minutes from his first event 3 weeks ago,” said Sherer.
Galena boys had one runner qualify for State: junior Caleb Clark. Clark finished 7th overall earning him All-District honors. Clark will run at 11:20 a.m. in Jefferson City this Saturday, November 3.
Junior Dawson Sherer finished 33rd, junior Colby Dinger 35th, freshman Noah Gulick 40th, freshman Nick McRoberts 44th, senior Josh Gulick 45th and freshman Jacob Martin 60th. The boys team finished 5th in Districts. a
