The driver of a van, as well as a child passenger, were injured in an alleged DWI crash on Tuesday evening. On September 4, Tephanie D. Stewart, 28, of Galena, was driving on Route TT in Barry County when her vehicle left the road and hit a utility pole.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, Stewart was driving a 1999 Chrysler Town and Country van westbound on Route TT about six miles west of Crane. The van left the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, went back on the road then skidded off the left side of the road, overturned and hit a utility pole around 5 p.m.
Stewart and a nine year old passenger*, also of Galena, both suffered moderate injuries in the crash. They were both transported to Mercy Hospital in Springfield.
Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol shows Tephanie Stewart was issued a DWI at 5:47 p.m. and released to medical personnel for treatment.
The van was totalled from the scene by Hillbilly’s Wrecker.
