Galena PTSO Buys All Supplies For Elementary

July 22, 2020
Isaac Estes-Jones

The Galena Elementary Parents Teachers Students Organization (PTSO) announced recently they were able to purchase all necessary supplies for students at Galena-Abesville Elementary School for the upcoming year.

Students’ families will not have to purchase paper, pencils, etc., this year thanks to fundraising efforts by the PTSO over the last year. The only thing families will be responsible for is a backpack and also sleep mats for younger students.

“Thank you Galena family for supporting our children and our community. We couldn’t do this without you!” said a representative for the group. “We as a PTSO board thought the parents would love for us to bless them with school supplies,” the group said.

Throughout the year, the PTSO holds several fundraisers to help out teachers at Galena-Abesville Elementary. Every fall, the group holds a school carnival that brings in around $10,000 in donations. They also have a Miss/Mr. Merry Christmas fundraiser each year.

Because the school closed in March due to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the PTSO did not have the opportunity to spend their raised funds on a teacher request.

School supplies will be at the school this August when doors reopen. Parents do not have to do anything to get the supplies, they will just be there for the students.

Recently, Crane Elementary School announced that First Baptist Church, Crane, would purchase most school supplies for students at this school, grades kindergarten through sixth grade. Crane Elementary parents will need to buy a few cleaning supplies in addition to supplying a backpack for their student.
