Galena Man Faces 33 Charges Of Abuse
March 14, 2019
A 22 year old Galena man, Michael Hurst, has been charged with 33 counts of sexual abuse against a child.
According to affidavits of probable cause and a felony complaint, one victim disclosed ongoing abuse in August 2017, when they were interviewed at the Lakes Area Child Advocacy Center.
The victim alleged that Hurst would abuse them in various ways, and that the abuse had occurred until June of 2017.
A warrant for Hurst’s arrest was issued in October 2018, with bond set at $50,000 cash only. Hurst was arrested October 17, 2018, and bond was later reduced to $10,000 cash or surety, which was posted Oct. 22, according to online court records.
On February 20, however, the complaint against Hurst was amended, listing a total of 33 felony charges ranging from child molestation to statutory assault and indecent exposure.
Due to the sensitive nature of these allegations, the specifics are not being listed in this news story. Prosecutors are unable to comment on ongoing litigation.
Hurst’s next court appearance has not yet been scheduled.
