Galena Golf Starts Spring Season With Two Matches

March 28, 2019

The Galena boys started a brand new season Friday, March 22, at Hidden Valley Golf Club in Boaz. Clever High School hosted the nine hole event. Other schools in attendance included host Clever, Spokane and Purdy. The Bears lost five seniors from last year’s squad, return zero letterman and have no varsity experience. Galena’s top individual score was sophomore Colby Stacy. Others playing their first varsity event were juniors Skylar Nielsen, Joseph Price and Landon Winter along with lone senior Duane Erickson.

In the second match of the season, the Bears traveled to Bill and Payne Stewart Golf Course in Springfield hosted by New Covenant Academy. The Bears added two more golfers for this event, that also run track, with freshman Noah Gulick and junior Dawson Sherer. The Bears team score really improved as they shaved off 29 strokes from the first match. Colby Stacy, Joseph Price and Landon Winter all improved their scores by six strokes or better. Medalists for the match included junior Dawson Sherer (1st overall) and sophomore Colby Stacy (5th overall). The boys will be back in action on Thursday in Sarcoxie.
