Galena Cross-Country Team Shines At Diamond

October 11, 2018
On Tuesday, October 2, the Galena Bears High School and Junior High runners traveled to Diamond to compete in the Wildcat Invitational.
In the junior high girls division, the young lady Bears took home the second place plaque in the team title and had four medalists: 8th grader Susanna Dillard, 13th; 8th grader Taylor Jones, 10th; 7th grader Hannah McCullough finished 8th; and winning the event was eighth grader Kalie Burchette.
In the junior high boys division, Cameron Elder finished 3rd in a hotly contested race. Cameron was just steps away from winning the event with a great kick at the end. The junior high boys were short handed as many of the runners were participating in a junior high basketball contest, but still a great showing for the three men that ran.
The next race featured the high school girls. The girls ran in a pack or team formation for the 3.1 mile jaunt, but they did not have any medalists. Freshman Harley McCullough was the top female runner and kept a great pace as she continues to improve.
The final contest featured the high school boys. The boys finished third overall in the team event which is their best team finish of the season. Junior Caleb Clark finished 3rd. He was in the lead most of the race, buy got edged out in a dead sprint at the end.
The other Bear medalist was junior Colby Dinger, finishing 18th and bettering his personal record by a minute and a half. Just off the medal stand were junior Dawson Sherer and freshman Noah Gulick finishing 22nd and 23rd.
