First Jenkins Bridge Fundraiser Held

March 28, 2019
The Homestead Pickers from Silver Dollar City performed a benefit concert on Saturday, March 23, in Wheelerville for the Jenkins Bridge Preservation Foundation. Around 40 people came to Wheelerville Community Church for the show, which raised funds for the preservation and restoration of the old Jenkins bridge.

The foundation will meet again on Thursday, April 4, at 6:30 p.m. at Jenkins Fire Station #1 for anyone interested in participating in the group. Board members and other officials are in the process of forming a 501(c)3 non-profit to take over the bridge from Barry County. Because the county will not maintain the bridge and liability, the community is forming the organization to preserve the bridge and list it on the National Register of Historic Places.
