The Stone County Health Department reported Monday afternoon on a fourth confirmed positive case of COVID-19 in Stone County. The health department reported this confirmation via social media and a press release in the late afternoon on Monday, May 18.
According to Pam Burnett, administrator of Stone County Health Department (SCHD), it is unknown where this person may have been exposed to the disease. When asked if the case was one of community spread or was related to travel to a hot spot, Burnett said, "We haven't made that determination yet."
SCHD was able to share two possible exposures to the public from this case. The individual, who is now in quarantine at home, visited Porter's Supermarket in Crane at some time on Tuesday, May 5. They also visited Christian County Veterinary Clinic on Friday, May 8, and Saturday, May 9. More specific times for the visits are not available at the time of this writing. "People who were at [either] location on [the date's above] are at low risk for contracting COVID-19, but should monitor for symptoms. There is no need to self-quarantine or isolate unless symptoms develop. [These are]the only community exposure warranting notice to residents," the release from the health department reads.
"There are currently two people quarantined," Burnett said. This number includes the positive case and a close contact. SCHD will reportedly be monitoring the patient to insure proper isolation and quarantine protocols are being followed.
As of Monday, May 18, there have been 507 negative tests for COVID-19 performed in Stone County. Only the fourth patient and the close contact remain isolated. All three other cases have recovered.
At the conclusion of the press release, the Stone County Health Department offered the following guidelines for the general public. "The health department encourages all residents to take appropriate precautions such as good hand hygiene and social distancing. If you are sick stay home and call your provider, emergency room, urgent care, emergency personnel or health department before seeking medical attention.
"Now more than ever is the time to remember our safety precautions. Learning to adopt safe behaviors of washing hands, not touching your face, staying your 6 feet social distance and being mindful when you are sick to stay home is the best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19," the release said.
As of 2 p.m. Monday, May 18, there were 10,945 positive cases in Missouri, with 605 deaths. Approximately 154,110 patients have been tested in Missouri.
