Kick off Independence Day celebration season this Saturday in Hurley with the annual HCDC, City of Hurley, and Hurley Fire Department Independence Day Celebration behind City Hall.

The event kicks off at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 22. Live music will be provided by local band Thrillfall again this year.

There will be food courtesy of Southern Bank in Clever, plus a silent auction and cake walk.

The fireworks show, put on by the Hurley Fire Department, will begin at sunset. The Hurley Fire Department purchases and sets off the fireworks event each year.

The Hurley Fire Department Auxiliary will be selling raffle tickets for a gun drawing. The drawing will be held October 31. This year, the auxiliary is giving away a “Henry Big Boy” .357 Magnum/ .38 Special Octagon Barrel with case and ammo. Only those 18 and older can purchase tickets for this drawing.

Also new at Hurley City Hall is a playground. The equipment, including swings and a slide, were installed in late May so that children have something else to do and play on in the city, especially during these events.

With the wet summer our region has experienced, everyone is encouraged to be aware of the possibility of  rain or other bad weather. All of the organizations involved in planning the Independence Day celebration maintain Facebook pages that are updated regularly.

See www.facebook.com/HurleyFireProtectionDistrict for Hurley Fire Protection District, www.facebook.com/HurleyCommunityDevelopmentCorp/ for HCDC, and the City of Hurley maintains a page at www.facebook.com/CityOfHurley/.
