DocuDrama at Crane High Shows Students Consequences of Drunk, Drugged and Distracted Driving

May 3, 2018
Crane High School hosted a DocuDrama on Thursday, April 26. Several high school students acted in the dramatization about the effects of drunk, drugged and distracted driving in advance of prom last weekend. The Crane Police Department, Crane Fire, North Stone, Northeast Barry Fire Protection District, Mercy EMS, CoxHealth, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Cox Air Care and the Stone County Coroner all participated in the event.
After watching events play out in real time, Sophomores through Seniors watched a presentation by Missouri State Highway Patrol about further effects of not paying attention while driving.
High school students plaid roles, simulating the consequences and emotions of a violent crash.
First responders, including fire and EMS, came to the scene with lights and sirens. They used real equipment, including the jaws of life and moved "victims" on stretchers to the Cox AirCare helicopter that landed nearby.
After touch and go weather Thursday morning, the Cox AirCare helicopter was able to land near the school and take part in the simulation.
After the event, students watched a presentation from the Missouri State Highway Patrol then went to different stations to learn more, including wearing drunk-simulating goggles while trying to do field sobriety tests.
