Dining on the lake will soon be available again at Port of Kimberling. Owners of the new restaurant, Pier 28 Pizza and Grill, said it is scheduled to open in time for Memorial Day.
It has been nearly two years since the popular dock dining restaurant, Coyote’s Dockside Café and Pub, caught fire and burned. Since April 18, 2019, people who live in Kimberling City and visit the lake have missed being able to boat, or drive, to the restaurant and enjoy their meals on the water. This new restaurant will take Coyote’s place.
“The lake needs restaurants and [Port of Kimberling] wanted to partner with someone who would bring a variety of food,” Port of Kimberling Marketing and Revenue Manager Rachel Strother said.
Strother said construction for the dock was planned for last summer, but COVID-19 put a pause on much of the work.
Gary and Sally Morris own and operate Pier 28 Pizza and Grill, along with their daughter Meredith and son-in-law Kevin Watson. As long-time successful owners of Pizza By The Chef in Branson West, they said they’re excited to expand to Kimberling City and offer more than pizza, with a fun atmosphere.
“Burgers, chicken, fish, fries, and appetizers,” Gary Morris said. “I think people are really, really anxious and anticipating being able to go somewhere like that again.”
Morris said the restaurant will have the capacity to seat up to 200 people, inside and outside. Plus, there will be plenty of parking for boats and vehicles.
“There are 20 normal sized boat slips. There are three 17 x 42 big boat slips, which if they were empty would hold ten normal boats. So, up to 30 normal boats could park there,” Morris said. “Of course, there is a ton of parking on-shore as well.”
People who go to the restaurant will also enjoy live music. Morris said there are about 50 dates set on which live music will be played, including weekends and some weeknights. Pier 28 Pizza and Grill will also offer delivery within Port of Kimberling and carry-out for orders made online.
“We will be delivering, but only within the complex of Port of Kimberling, boat slips, the campsites, the hotel. We are going to do that on golf carts,” Morris said.
Morris said existing customers at Pizza By The Chef have been awaiting the opening of the new restaurant on the dock.
“It’s just non-stop with people coming into Pizza By The Chef and asking ‘When does the Pier open?’ Morris said.
Port of Kimberling owns the dock and building. Pier 28 Pizza and Grill will rent the space and provide everything inside, such as tables and kitchen equipment. Both parties say they’re excited to begin the partnership and offer this fun dining experience for people who come to Table Rock Lake.
“It’s just fun to be able to pull your boat into a slip and just walk over, have a great meal, then head back to your boat, and head back out on the water,” Strother said.
Pier 28 Pizza and Grill will be open seven days per week from Memorial Day through Labor Day. It will be open on the weekends in the fall and spring.
