Crashes result in injuries and a DWI arrest

A crash on snow-covered roads injured a man near Galena on Jan. 6.

The crash occurred at 10:07 a.m., as Michael Pickett, 61, of Springfield, drove a 2010 Nissan pickup eastbound, two and a half miles west of Galena on MO 413. Pickett lost control as he tried to negotiate a curve on snow-covered roads. The truck slid across the centerline and struck a 2002 Ford pickup driven by 45-year-old Pam Wood of Galena.

Pickett suffered moderate injuries and was transported by EMS to Mercy Hospital in Aurora.

The crash was investigated by Cpl. R. Wilkins of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

In another crash, Destiny Taylor, 19, of Brookline, was seriously injured in a collision on MO-173, two miles north of Cape Fair, on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022.

According to a Missouri Highway Patrol crash report, Taylor was driving a 2021 Hyundai Elantra northbound on Hwy. 173 at 4:08 p.m. when she attempted to pass another vehicle. Taylor ran off the left side of the road and then the right side of the road, becoming airborne, overturning, and striking a tree.

A passenger in the car, Faith Stark, 19, of Galena, received minor injuries. Both women were taken to Cox Hospital in Springfield.

Records show that Taylor was arrested at 4:57 p.m. for felony DWI resulting in injury. Taylor was cited and released for medical treatment.
