Crane Woman Dies In Crash North Of Town Monday

A Crane woman lost her life Monday afternoon after her vehicle was hit head-on north of Crane. According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, Barbara J. Sutherland, 82, of Crane, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet HHR north on Missouri 413 when another vehicle crossed the center line and hit the HHR.
The incident occurred at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 25, about one half mile south of the intersection of Highways 413 and M.
The southbound vehicle, a 2000 Ford Ranger, was driven by Daniel W. Cantrell, 68, of Marionville.
Sutherland was pronounced deceased at the scene by Stone County Coroner John Cunnyngham at 1:57 p.m. She was wearing a seat belt. This is MSHP Troop D’s 21st fatality for 2019. She was transported to the Stone County Medical Examiner Office.
As required by law, Cantrell was tested for alcohol. He was not taken into custody, indicating the test was negative.
Cantrell suffered moderate injuries in the crash. He was taken to Mercy Hospital by EMS for treatment.
The 2008 Chevrolet HHR and 2000 Ford Ranger were both totaled in the crash. They were both towed by Double Eagle Towing.
This incident was investigated by Trooper D. B. DeHaan, with assistance from Corporal K. C. Morris, Sergeant B. C. Gruben and Trooper M. K. Eden.
