A Crane man is being held in the Stone County Jail for allegedly raping at least one woman with declining mental capacity at the nursing home in Crane.
According to affidavits of probable cause, used in filing charges, Paul Edward Christianson, 43, sexually assaulted a resident of the Ozark Mountain Regional residence home over the summer. Stone County Sheriff’s deputies first responded to the home on August 7 for reported sexual assaults of mentally handicapped residents. After the original report was taken, Detectives Duren and Windham began to investigate.
Duren, who wrote the probable cause statement, and Windham met with state investigators and also spoke with the alleged victim. The victim was then interviewed at the Branson West CAC due to her mental capacity. She reportedly consistently gave the same details, leading the Sheriff’s Office detectives and state investigators to find her story credible.
Detective Duren met with Christianson on Friday, August 24, at his home in Crane. He was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Stone County Jail. During an interview, Christianson allegedly admitted to having sexual intercourse with two different residents of the care facility. Both of the individuals are reported undergoing treatment for diminishing mental capacity.
Paul E. Christianson is charged with one count of rape or attempted rape in the first degree. If convicted, he could spend the rest of his life in jail.
Christianson appeared in Stone County Court on Tuesday, August 28. He is still being held in the Stone County Jail without bond.
