Crane Man Charged With Rape

December 13, 2018

Isaac Estes-Jones

An 18 year old Crane man is facing rape charges after allegedly assaulting someone after a gathering in Galena.

According to affidavits of probable cause, Kelbie D. McKnight, 18, of Crane, was with friends at an address on Highway 413. At the event, McKnight and the victim, reportedly his significant other, were drinking and mingling with friends and family on Sunday, October 21, 2018.

The cause statement continues to say that at the end of the evening, McKnight and the victim went to bed and were watching Netflix. The victim fell asleep.

She allegedly awoke sometime later with McKnight on top of her; she reportedly froze.

When the victim woke up later, she reportedly found her pants were unzipped and her underclothes were wet. When confronted about this, McKnight allegedly gave different excuses before finally admitting to having intercourse with her while she was asleep and said he did not think she would find out.

McKnight is charged with rape in the second degree, a Class D felony. He was arrested on Wednesday, November 21, and booked into the Stone County Jail. His bond amount was first set at $20,000 cash-only. On Tuesday, November 27, that bond was reduced to $5,000 cash-only. Online court records indicate that McKnight posted the full bond on Friday, December 7.

McKnight will next appear in Stone County Circuit Court on January 8, 2019.
