Crane Library Expansion Taking Shape

March 28, 2019
Picture
Exterior work on the Stone County Library Crane branch expansion is making good progress with the improving weather the area has seen over the past weeks.
Above, you can see part of the current library on the far right of the photo, with the new expansion area in the center. The new brick work brought the façade of the building level with the street and the newly poured sidewalks.

The entrance to the building is a double door that the library board promises will be ADA compliant. To the right of the door is a hole in the bricks, likely for the book return. Library director Rebecca Payne says the expanded library will have a book return built into the building. The current library’s book return is a post office style box outside the building.

The interior of the building has not yet been renovated. After construction of the exterior is complete, the library plans to take ideas and comments from the public on how they want the library to be designed and set up.
