The City of Crane received a grant from White River Valley Electric Cooperative to help give buildings in town a facelift.
“We were able to purchase flower barrels and exterior paint,” City of Crane Mayor Collin Brannan said.
Mayor Brannan said the project focuses on enhancing the corridor along Highway 413 and Main Street and Courtney Lane along Dodge Hollow Road.
“Letters were sent out to all business owners throughout the city [to notify them of the available paint and flower barrels],” Mayor Brannan said.
Businesses can receive up to 40 gallons of paint, which was purchased with the grant money from Rocking W Farm & Home in Crane. Businesses that have already received paint include Hwy 13 Tire and Service, Crane Auto Supply, Hudson Tire, Millenial Holdings, and Johnson’s Service Center. There were 20 flower barrels planted with perennials available as well. Local businesses, including Peddler’s Junction on Main Street, have taken advantage of the availability of the flower planters.
“I am so grateful and excited to see our community receive this grant. Businesses are being given the opportunity to enhance their exteriors and have beautiful planters of flowers outside which will draw attention to the business by making it look fresh and improved. When businesses take the time to beautify, we see a marked increase in foot traffic and sales,” Peddler’s Junction Owner Staci Blades said.
Mayor Brannan said buildings with graffiti are also being repainted, thanks to the grant money. City properties, including the Crane City Pool, also have received new flower planters.
“The focus of this project is to improve the quality of life of both our citizens and those traveling through our city. We believe beautification projects like these do help improve daily life and reflect our community’s pride and commitment,” Mayor Brannan said.
However, it is not only business owners and the city who can take advantage of the grant money. Residents and homeowners can receive up to 20 gallons of paint.
All of the flower barrels have been spoken for and delivered. However, there is still a small amount of paint available for use. Those wanting to receive paint can pick up an application available at Crane City Hall.
