Crane and Galena hold Class of 2018 Commencement Ceremonies

        Galena R-II held its commencement for the Class of 2018 on Saturday, May 12. Salutatorian Austin Holt and Valedictorian Adam Cunnyngham gave their speeches, followed by the commencement address by Coach David Sherer. 
        School board President Rick Farley handed out diplomas and Superintendent Dr. Danny Humble turned each student’s tassel. 
        ​Galena students received over $900,000 in scholarships this year.

        ​Crane seniors were awarded over $800,000 in scholarships and grants in 2018. Included in this number are several local scholarships. 
        ​Madison Moreland was awarded the $10,000 Hagan Scholarship.
        ​The Bank of Billings and Crane Broiler Festival Scholarships, each valued at $500, were awarded to Shelby Ellingsworth. Ellingsworth also received the $500 Crane Class of ‘57 scholarship. 
        ​Colton Elder was awarded three other local scholarships, the Crane Teachers Association award, valued at $300, the LeRoy Armstrong Memorial scholarship, $500, and the $250 Crane Chronicle/Stone County Republican scholarship. 
        ​Kelti Reed received the Porter’s Supermarket scholarship, $500, the Crane Class of 1940 scholarship for $500 and the Shelter Insurance scholarship for $2,000. 
        ​Maggie Vaught received the $500 Liberty Bank scholarship and the Educator of the Year scholarship. This is a $500 scholarship that is renewable for four years for a total of $2,000. 
        ​The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks awarded $500 to Charleah Eden and $250 to Shelby Ellingsworth. 
        ​Madison Bently received both the Elks Legacy and Elks Veterans scholarships, valued at $1,000 each. 
        ​​Finally, Sadie Guess received the $500 Lance Corporal Richard E. Cutbirth Memorial Scholarship.
