City of Crane Sets Spring 2018 Clean Up Days for End of the Month

April 5, 2018
Isaac Estes-Jones
The City of Crane recently announced the dates for the annual City Wide Garage Sale and City Wide Clean Up events, Saturday April 28 and Monday, April 30, respectively. This year, the city included a pamphlet in all utility bills detailing the events and the reasoning behind them.
To be on the map for City Wide Garage sale, notify Crane City Hall by Friday, April 27. For large appliances, you must contact the city by Wednesday, April 25 to be put on the list for large items.
“I am happy to announce another round of City Wide Clean Up Crane,” said Mayor Collin Brannan in the brochure included in this month’s bills.
“You see [the trash] and so does every visitor that comes through town,” Brannan said, adding “we have to work together and get it cleaned up.”
Brannan announced that cleaning up the city would move in phases. Phase one is the voluntary clean up, starting with the City Wide Garage Sale and Clean Up events, followed by a “Clean Up Crane Day” on Saturday, May 5. On this day, people, groups and businesses are asked to meet at the park at 9 a.m. to be divided into teams to clean up city property, including the parks, ball fields, pool, trails and roadways. Lunch will be served by the city to all who volunteer.
Phase two is focused attention on “deferred maintenance” properties. “The city’s Mayor and Board of Aldermen want to work with property owners and renters to reduce nuisance violations.... We understand some of the City’s residents are elderly or lack the resources to maintain their properties,” the pamphlet says. If you need assistance, contact the City and they may be able to assist you in finding someone to help with maintenance.
The final phase is enforcement actions, which no one in the city government wants to see.
