Cases are down in Stone County as vaccinations are now underway across the state for more than 3 million eligible Missouri residents.
In the last seven days, Stone County has reported 36 cases of Covid-19, a 30.8 percent decrease from the prior week. The positivity rate, which refers to the percentage of tests that come back positive, is down to 11.5 percent from a high of 14 percent two weeks ago.
Earlier this month, Phase 1B-Tier 1 rolled out to vaccinate first responders, public health infrastructure, emergency services, and medical workers, public works, and emergency management agencies.
Phase 1B-tier 2 began Monday. This phase includes anyone aged 65 and older, adults with cancer, chronic kidney disease, COPD, heart conditions, weakened immune systems due to organ transplant, severe obesity (BMI greater than 40), pregnancy, sickle cell disease, type 2 diabetes or individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities such as Down Syndrome.
Individuals eligible for the current vaccinations phase should contact their local pharmacy, healthcare provider, or health department. The state of Missouri is still experiencing an exceptionally limited supply of COVID-19 vaccines. Many vaccination sites are still awaiting supplies from the federal government.
The Missouri Foundation for Health encourages everyone to continue to wear masks to protect themselves and those around them, wash their hands frequently, and physically distance whenever possible. Testing and quarantining remain a crucial defense against the virus.
The average turnaround time for test results is 1.6 days. To date, there have been 1880 Covid-19 cases and 29 deaths attributed to the virus in Stone County.
