Couple On Unusual Bike Journey Make Stop In Crane

February 27, 2020
PictureNatalie Suarez, left, and Logan Mayberry, right, are attempting to break a Guinness World Record by biking 20,000 miles across the contiguous United States. The Tulsa couple passed through Crane last Friday on their way to Branson and points further along their route. They expect the trip to take roughly 18 months.

A Tulsa, Okla., couple stopped in Crane last week as they make their way across the contiguous United States on bicycles. Logan Mayberry and Natalie Suarez are real estate investors who decided to ride bicycles across the country and find houses to flip.

“We are going to find people in each community where we make an investment and help them check something off their bucket list,” said Mayberry after he stopped at the Chronicle’s office on Friday, February 21.

Mayberry and Suarez are riding electrically-assisted bikes and are towing supplies behind them. Their stop in Crane was day six on a journey they think will take up to a year and a half to complete.

“We are trying to break a Guinness World Record by traveling 20,000 miles. We are going to visit all 48 states,” Mayberry said.

“When we came up with the idea, we didn’t know it was a record and looked it up. The current record is 5,100 miles,” he said.

According to Guiness World Records, the current record for longest journey on a motorized bicycle was set in 2016 by Ravindra Kempaiah, who traveled for 34 days over 12 different states.

While the couple met and lives in Tulsa, Mayberry is originally from Missouri. In 2017, he walked across the country from California. The pair wanted to come up with another way to travel and hopefully do some good.

“We spent a year trying to plan it all out,” said Suarez.

“The main thing is we want to get the word out so we can help some people do something incredible. But the only way we can do that is if we find properties to flip along the way,” Mayberry said.

After eating at Hickory Grove Café and charging their bikes, the pair said they were heading for Branson. From there, according to a map of their plans, the couple is going to head south through Arkansas and eventually loop back into the lower portion of Oklahoma and on West through to Texas, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona and California before turning north and continuing their long journey.

If you would like to follow along with their progress, the pair is posting updates online and also making videos as they travel.
