July 30, 2020
Isaac Estes-Jones

Two people from Clever were hurt over the weekend after their motorcycle hit a vehicle stopped in Highway 37.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, Dennis Cisneros, 59, of Clever, was driving a 2015 Can M Spyder three wheeled motorcycle south on Highway 37 when the incident occurred on Saturday, July 25.

At approximately 3 p.m., a 2014 Chrysler Town and Country van that was heading south on the highway slowed and stopped about two miles south of Aurora for another southbound vehicle that was turning in front. The Town and Country was driven by Trenton J. Schmidt, 43, of Salina, Kan.

According to GPS coordinates supplied in the crash report, this incident occurred near the intersection of Missouri Highway 37 and Farm Road 2010.

The Can Am motorcycle hit the rear of the van then ran off the right edge of the roadway, where it overturned and ejected Cisneros and a passenger in the vehicle, 62 year old Patsy C. Cisneros, also of Clever.

Both Dennis and Patsy Cisneros were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash, according to the report. Patsy suffered serious injuries. She was taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield for treatment. Dennis sustained moderate injuries. He was taken to Cox South Hospital in Springfield.

The 2015 Can Am Spyder motorcycle was totaled in the crash. It was towed from the scene by a friend of the driver, according to the report.

The 2014 Chrysler Town and Country van had only minor damage. It was driven from the scene. The driver of the van, Trenton Schmidt, did not report any injuries in the crash. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

This incident was investigated by Cpl. C. Mason of Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop D.
