An 80 year old Clever man lost his life last weekend after a single vehicle wreck just outside of Clever in Christain County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, Rober A. Hays, 80, was driving a 2000 Chrysler minivan north on Metzletein Road when the wreck occurred on Saturday, January 4.

According to the report, the minivan traveled off the side of the roadway at around 2:50 p.m.

The vehicle hit a tree and overturned before coming to a stop.

Hays, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported to Cox South Hospital in Springfield by EMS for treatment. He later passed away from his injuries.

Robert Hays was pronounced deceased at 4:42 p.m. by Dr. Vashaw at Cox South Hospital. He is Troop D’s first fatality of 2020.

The 2000 Chrysler minivan had extensive damage. It was towed from the scene by Villar’s Towing.

This incident was investigated by Sgt. G. D. Smith, of Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop D.
