Charges have been filed against the individuals who led Stone County deputies on a chase last week. The chase ended with one man temporarily admitted to the hospital for hypothermia after he fell into Table Rock Lake and allegedly attempted to hide from authorities.
Jacob M. Badley, 27, of Blue Eye, and Felisha W. Philpott, 30, of Shell Knob, are being held in the Stone County Jail without bond as of press-time Tuesday, April 10. Philpott is charged with resisting arrest and Badley is charged with resisting arrest, tampering with a vehicle and stealing of $750 or more. Both also have probation violations.
The chase occurred on Monday, April 2. According to a press release from Stone County Sheriff Doug Rader, deputies were dispatched to a construction site on H Highway near Copperhead Road when workers noticed a suspicious vehicle. The workers called 911 and dispatch confirmed the plates belonged to a vehicle reported as stolen out of Barry County.
According to statements of probable cause, used in filing charges against Badley and Philpott, deputies were dispatched to the area. They came across the vehicle on H Highway and attempted to stop the vehicle. However, the vehicle allegedly sped down a side road. The deputies started to pursue the vehicle, but called off the pursuit due to worsening weather conditions.
Members of the public continued to contact 911 about the vehicle. They told officers that the vehicle was abandoned by the lake off of Rambling Road. Badley and Philpott allegedly then fled on foot.
According to the press release, Badley was located at one point, but again fled and then fell into Table Rock Lake. Water Patrol was called in to help search for him. He was eventually found in about five feet of water. Due to the weather and time he spent in the water, Badley was taken to the hospital and treated for hypothermia before being released into custody of the Sheriff’s office.
Felisha Philpott was later found hiding near the abandoned vehicle. According to the press release, she was found hiding under a small rock outcropping. According to the probable cause statement, Philpott said she was running because she did not want to go to jail because she is on probation.
Badley and Philpott are both being held without bail. Both had previously been sentenced to prison for possession of a controlled substance in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
