2018 Candidate Biographies for Stone County Extension Council Election
District 1
Michael Kaup lives in Crane and has lived in the county for 54 years. Michael is a self-employed owner of Kaup Bookkeeping Tax Service in Crane since 1984. He has served on the extension council in the past and has served in the roles of Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer at various times over the years. He stays active in the community, serving as secretary for the Crane Broiler Festival Association for the past six years and has worked as part of the “BBQ pit crew” at the festival for over 15 years. Michael indicates that he grew up in 4-H clubs and junior leadership programs as a youth and has always been interested in serving extension in his adult years. Michael is married to Brenda Kaup. His daughter is Heather Kaup.
Greg Rogers lives on highway AA east of Crane and has lived in Stone County for five years. He and his wife Kathie live on a small farm and have a small cow-calf beef herd. They participate in a farmers market with vegetables grown on the farm. They are in the process of building a high-tunnel for growing vegetables. Greg completed extension’s Master Gardener training in 2016 and is involved in projects in the Galena area, helps with the Bonniebrook estate and donates vegetables to the Crane food pantry. He attends various training classes in agriculture and greenhouse/high tunnel training in the area. Greg served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 21 years and both he and his wife Kathie have retired from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. They have four grown children.
Lyle “LJ” Tatum lives in the Brown Springs area of northern Stone County. He has lived in the county for over ten years. Lyle was voted onto the extension council in August, 2017 as an appointment to fill a vacant position and has actively served and participated. Lyle works for Austin Powder, farms and has an auction company for livestock and poultry. He was president of the Hurley Saddle Club and for several years has been involved in cattle associations and supports local FFA and 4-H programs. Lyle has a 16 year old son who is active in FFA and a 12 year old daughter who is active in sports.
District 3
Dan Bradl lives in the Baxter community west of Lampe with his wife, Sherry. Dan has served one two-year term so far on the extension council. He has lived in Stone County for three years after a 40 year career in the corporate aviation industry. He worked in maintenance management, field service and overseas assignments, aircraft marketing and contract management. In the past he has been a Sunday school teacher, junior achievement instructor and treasurer for a work professional organization. He currently is a member of Our Lady of the Cove Catholic Church in Kimberling City and supports local community service programs through the Knights of Columbus. Dan and his wife Sherry have a small farm and have participated in extension agricultural programs covering grazing, hay production and forage/feeds. On their farm they harvest hay and are experimenting with pecans, black walnuts and considering expansion into blueberries. They are very supportive of Stone County schools, farms, businesses and community-based assistance programs. He and Sherry have been married for 43 years. They have three adult children.
Bob McConnell lives in Kimberling City with his wife, Linda. He has served on the extension council for four years previously and served as vice-chair. After retiring as a Silver Dollar City executive for many years, he is now owner of Express Employment Professionals that aids in employment for people in Stone, Taney and Barry counties. Bob owns a 70 acre farm east of Galena and has often utilized extension for information related to his farm. He serves on the board of directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Stone County Disability Board and the Branson Lodging Association. Bob and Linda have two adult sons.
