Formal charges were filed against Michael Kimbrell after presstime last week. The 37 year old Blue Eye man is charged with 15 felonies in relation to the Tuesday, July 31 shoot-out and standoff in Blue Eye.
As we reported last week, Michael Robert Kimbrell allegedly ran into an occupied home in Blue Eye after trading shots with Stone County Deputies.
According to a press release from Stone County Sheriff Doug Rader, deputies were dispatched to Blue Eye on Tuesday, July 31, for a reported burglary on or near Brandonville Drive, behind the Twin Island Market.
Deputies got out of their vehicles and approached the area on foot, where they reportedly found Michael Kimbrell standing in the middle of Brandonville Drive.
Kimbrell allegedly fired a gun at the deputies when he saw them and ran east on Brandonville toward Tall Oak Lane while the deputies returned fire.
Kimbrell allegedly entered a residence on Tall Oak and held the occupants against their will. After an hour and a half standoff, Kimbrell was taken into custody. The Sheriff’s Office press release states he was persuaded to leave the residence.
At this time, specifics of the event are unclear. After he was taken into custody, charges of kidnapping, burglary, assault and unlawful use of a weapon were filed.
In a court appearance on Thursday, August 2, Stone County Circuit Court approved holding Kimbrell without bond. According to online court records, the court reasons that, “due to nature of charges, flight risk and risk to victims/community,” Kimbrell is to be held without bond.
Kimbrell is set to next appear before Judge Blankenship on Tuesday, August 21.
An amended probable cause statement and amended complaint were filed with the court, also on August 2. His charges were updated from the four initially reported by the Stone County Sheriff’s Office to a total of 15, including one count of rape or attempted rape.
He is charged with six counts of armed criminal action, three counts of first degree assault of a special victim, one count of first degree kidnapping, one count of burglary in the first degree, one count of rape or attempted rape in the first degree, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon by exhibiting and one count of first degree assault.
The deputies involved in the shoot-out have been placed on administrative leave. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation into the matter.
