Bears take second place in tough Cabool Classic

The Galena Bears started the Cabool tournament off with a win over Couch. We had a 59 percent 2-point field goal percentage, making 36/61. We had a 28 percent 3-point goal percentage, making 4/14. Shots were taken and they were made. What an amazing way to start the week out. The boys had 19 offensive rebounds and 31 defensive rebounds, nine steals, and one block. Our team had 26 assists. Leading the Bears in scoring yet another game is Zayne Gales with 30 points. Right behind him was Wyatt Snelson with 29 points. Couch was no match for our Galena Bears.
January 19, the Bears played Cabool, where the Bears took the win 70 to 62. The boys had a 51 percent 2-point field goal percentage, shooting 47 and making 24. The Bears also had a 50 percent 3-point field goal percentage, shooting ten and making five. The Bears pulled down 21 offensive rebounds and 19 defensive rebounds. The defense had an amazing 12 steals and five blocks. Unfortunately, the boys did have 22 turnovers, but overall we moved the ball and shot well to take the win over Cabool and move on to the championship.
January 22, the boys faced a very good Norwood team. Going into this game the boys knew they had to bring their all. The Bears shot 51 percent on 2-point field goals, making 15 of 29. They shot 33 percent on 3-point field goals, making five of 15. The Bears grabbed six offensive rebounds and 17 defensive rebounds. The boys had 12 assists and six deflections. Wyatt Snelson took the lead over the team with 22 scored points, followed by Zayne Gale with 14. Jake Poole and Wyatt Snelson led the team for defensive rebounds with five. Zayne Gale had four assists. Sophomore, Brayden Sartin, led the way on defense, as he held Garrett Davault, who averages 30 plus points per game, to 17. The Bears fought hard but fell short by only three points to Norwood, with a final score of 51 to 54.
This week, we will start SWCL Conference play, as our Bears face the tough Spokane Owls on Tuesday at home. This Friday, we see our Galena Bears head to Billings.
