Two Hurt In Back-To-Back Motorcycle Wrecks

May 10, 2018
Isaac Estes-Jones
Two motorcyclists were taken to the hospital on Friday, May 4, after one driver wrecked and another swerved to avoid the first. According to Missouri State Highway Patrol crash reports, Amy S. Williams, 45, of Silver City, Iowa, and Connie J. Schwartz, 64, of Kimberling City, were part of a group of motorcycles traveling south on Missouri 13 about a mile south of Kimberling City when the crashes occurred.
The crashes, classified as separate events by the Highway Patrol, occurred just before 4:30 p.m. when the group of motorcycles slowed to make a right turn into the Cruise-Inn and Throttle Down, a private driveway. Amy Williams, who was driving a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle, was slowing with the group. However, at 4:22 p.m., the crash report states that the vehicle began to skid and subsequently overturned. Williams was ejected from the vehicle.
At 4:23 p.m., the second crash occurred as Connie Schwartz swerved the 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle she was driving to avoid another vehicle in the roadway and ran off the right side of the road. It is unclear from the reports if Schwartz swerved to avoid Williams or another vehicle that had slowed or stopped to help, but the timing and location of the events indicates they were closely related. Schwartz was ejected from the motorcycle during the crash.
Amy S. Williams suffered serious injuries in the first crash. She was taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield for treatment. Connie Schwartz had moderate injuries. She was taken by ambulance to Cox South Hospital in Springfield. Both Williams and Schwartz were wearing safety devices at the time of the crashes.
Williams’ 2009 Harley Davidson had minor damage from the crash. It was towed by a private party. Schwartz’s 2005 Harley also had minor damage. It was towed by Larry’s Towing.
These wrecks were investigated by Trooper J. Linegar of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
