Area crashes result in one death
​and moderate injuries for Galena girl

An elderly Blue Eye man lost his life last week when he pulled out in front of another Blue Eye man on Hwy JJ, 7 miles east of Blue Eye.
William Meister, 82, was driving a 2006 Ford Expedition northbound on Hwy JJ when he pulled out in front of a 1995 Ford F-350 pickup driven by 30-year-old Timothy Hickman, traveling southbound.

Meister was transported to Mercy Hospital in Springfield by EMS. He was pronounced dead by Dr. Brian Draper at Mercy Hospital at 10:51 p.m. on July 23, 2021. No injuries were listed for Hickman in the Missouri Highway Patrol crash report.

Meister was wearing a safety device; Hickman was not. Cpl investigated the crash. J.E. Henderson. This was Troop D’s 78th fatality crash of 2021.

In another crash earlier last week, a Galena teen was moderately injured in a crash near Cape Fair.

On July 21, 2020, at 11:20 p.m., Leila Nelson, 19, of Galena, was injured when the 2003 Pontiac Grand Am she was driving ran off the roadway on Hwy. 76, two miles west of Cape Fair, and struck several trees.

Nelson was not wearing a safety device at the time of the crash. Nelson was transported to Cox Hospital in Branson by EMS. Nelson’s vehicle sustained total damages.
