Architect Selected For Crane Library Expansion

July 5, 2018
Isaac Estes-Jones
Stone County Library Director Rebecca Payne announced that CASCO Architecture & Engineering had won the bid to begin work on the new Crane Library Building.
The Board of Trustees of Stone County Library voted on Tuesday, June 26, to accept the $75,000-85,000 + fees bid. Steve Dahms, an architect with CASCO’s Branson branch, and a Crane native, will be working on this project. He expects to begin work in mid-July.
The first phase of the renovation project will focus on addressing any structural issues in the street-facing wall, while also updating the look of the building. The bid was for all construction and engineering work to update the look of the building and address any and all issues with the street facing section of the building.
The Library purchased the building, immediately next door to the current branch, in December 2017 for a total cost of $75,000, which the Library paid for out of reserves.
“I’m very excited that we are moving forward!” said Payne. “Mr. Dahms will begin taking measurements and start more in-depth measurements in about two weeks. They anticipate the project taking 2-3 months once that has started.”
After the first portion of the project, the library will begin the planning phase for the interior of the building. This planning phase will include sessions held witht he community to discuss how the building can be best designed to serve their needs.
While those meetings are still several months out, Payne says she welcomes any early suggestions. If you have any ideas about how the Crane branch of the library should look with the new expansion, you can send those suggestions to Stone County Library Director Rebecca Payne at rpayne@scl.lib.mo.us or mailed to her at PO Box 225 Galena, MO 65656.
