Crane FFA Squirrel Derby Set For Jan. 26

The annual Crane FFA Squirrel Derby will be held on Saturday, January 26, rain or shine.
As usual, the event is a one day event, costing $30 per team of two.
Entries are due no later than 6 p.m. on Friday, January 25.
Weigh ins will open at 12 p.m. and close at 2 p.m. at the Crane High School Ag building. Contestants in line at 2 p.m. will be able to weigh in.
There will be three side pots this year, each with an additional $5 buy-in. The side events are for smallest gray, smallest red and longest squirrel from nose to tail.
Rules for the event: Hunt anywhere you are licensed, following Dept. of Conservation rules. Check in up to five deceased squirrels, not cleaned, but dry and free from foreign objects.
Squirrels must be harvested day of event. Hunters may be asked to clean the animals for judges. In the event of a tie, longest squirrel will win.
Prize breakdown is as follows: Smallest pot of five squirrels (main event): First place: 30% of pot; Second: 15%; Third: 5%.
Winners of the side event(s) will receive 50% of the pot for that event.
