And Then There Were Five: Fifth Case Of COVID Confirmed

The Stone County Health Department confirmed on Monday, June 1, the fifth case of COVID-19 has been found in Stone County. The individual and their close contacts are quarantined at home at this time.

According to the release from the health department, this individual did not travel anywhere in Stone County necessitating public disclosure during the period they were contagious.

“The individual only traveled to and stopped in Berryville, Ark. This case did not visit anywhere in Stone County. The information has been release to public health officials in Carroll County, Arkansas,” the health department stated.

Details of potential public exposures in the Berryville, Ark., area are not available from the Carroll County, Arkansas, Health Department. According to Danyelle McNeill, public information officer for the Arkansas Department of Health, active case details cannot be released. “We aren’t able to share information about individuals. However, in these types of situations, contact tracing is used. Contact tracers research the situation and determine who, if any, had what would be considered close contact with the individual. If it’s determined that criteria for close contact has been met for people at the places the individual has visited, those people will be contacted and followed up with,” she said in a statement.

It is possible that this individual did not stop at any public locations in Berryville. The Chronicle is monitoring this situation and will update our readers with more information as soon as it is available.

There are two active COVID-19 cases in Stone County at this time. Both are quarantined at home.

Individuals are encouraged to continue practicing social distancing and to wash hands often.
