The results are in: voters were pickin Dickens and marking Maples in Tuesday’s election
Mark Maples won by nearly two thirds of the vote in Tuesday’s election against opponent Mike Cooper.

The votes are in and Tuesday night’s election proved to be a nail-biter for one county office -Stone County Clerk. Twenty-nine percent of Stone County’s registered voters turned out to cast ballots. Shortly after 9 p.m., Denise Dickens, who had occupied the office by governor appointment, was unofficially declared the winner with 52 percent of the vote. Challenger Tena Foster trailed by just 225 votes.
In the other big county race of the night, Mark Maples easily shut out Mike Cooper in the Presiding Commissioner race with 63 percent of the votes to Cooper’s 37 percent.
“I love Stone County, and I’m thankful for another four years. Stone County is just a great place to live,” Maples said last night after the election.
“We have a lot of good things planned for the county, and we’re excited to continue our work to keep making this county better and better. Again, thank you to everyone,” Maples added.
All other county officials ran unopposed.
In the senate race, Billy Long received 20 percent of the vote in Stone County but only 5 percent statewide. For US Senator, Republican Eric Schmitt will face Democrat Trudy Busch Valentine, Libertarian Johnathan Dine, and Constitution Party candidate Paul Venable. Republican Eric Burlison will be up against Democrat Kristen Radaker-Sheafer and Libertarian Kevin Craig for Representative District 7, Republican Scott Fitzpatrick will square off against Democrat Alan Green and Libertarian John Hartwig.
