2021-2022 Galena Lady Bears Basketball Preview

November 11, 2021
The Galena Lady Bear basketball team will be looking to improve on a 2-22 record in 2020-2021. Much of this improvement will be on the shoulders of the Bears returning players, which includes SR Savanna Baker, JR Maci Doak, JR Taylor Jones, SO Chaley Plottner, SO Bree Rice, and SO Talyn Mackey.
“Savanna is my lone SR and four years starter. She will be asked to really focus on both ends of the floor, to provide leadership and depth to our guard rotation to help the team this year.” said Head Coach David Argo.
“Taylor Jones (Swift) gave us good minutes last season, after taking off her 8th-9th grade years. She developed into a good combo guard/post player. I’m looking forward to her becoming more of an all-around player this year. She has all the tools to be a very good student athlete.” states Argo.
“Chaley has been working hard in the off-season to develop her game. She has become a very good shooter, with the ability to take people off the dribble.  She is very athletic so she will be called to have many roles with this team.” according to Argo.
“Bree will be asked to shoulder most of the load at both ends. She worked hard to improve her speed, and the ability to attack the rim. She is a versatile player that can play any position on the court. We are looking forward to seeing her grow.” said Argo.
“Talyn is another young athletic player, with the ability to score the ball from inside or out.  You hardly ever see her without a basketball in her hand, she loves the games and it shows through her determination the games of the teams.” stated Argo.
“Maci had a slow (SO) year with her medical problem, but she is back to 100%. She is one of the best leaders I've had as a coach, everything she does is all 100%. She is the leader of our Defense, and took large steps forward on the offensive end in the game.” said Argo.
The Lady Bears have several freshmen this year that could make an immediate impact on the team. Freshman Averi Foster is a quick guard that does a good job handling the basketball and can cause havoc on the defensive end. Freshman Baylee Stacy, also a guard, can shoot the ball from deep and will add depth to the guard position. Freshman Maribelle Martin will look to solidify the post position for the Lady Bears. They are ready for it and they want to win this season.
The Lady Bears will participate in a jamboree on Saturday, November 13th at Galena High School. Their first regular season contest will be Friday, November 19th at Niangua.
